ASP (Active Server Pages)
ASP, like PHP, is a server-side scripting technology used to dynamically generate web pages and to interface them with databases. This Microsoft technology is typically seen running on Microsoft Windows Servers although there are module technologies available allowing linux/ Apache servers to process it as well.
ASP, as with most server-side scripting languages, Active Server Pages can accomplish amazing things, including:
- Respond to user requests for data submitted through HTML forms.
- Access data contained in files or databases and return the results to a browser or use it in processing responses
- Edit or alter the content of a web page, or even create entirely new ones - dynamically (on-the-fly).
- Tailor a web page to the user making it more user-friendly or pertinent for the user.
- Provide a level of security as ASP code cannot be viewed from a browser.
