PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor)

PHP is primarily a popular general purpose server-side scripting language used to dynamically generate web pages and to interface them with databases. In this fashion, It is similar to Microsoft's Active Server Pages (ASP).

This language is "cross-platform", meaning that it can be installed and run on most any server type: (Windows / Linux). PHP is very popular for its' user-friendly, flexible, and open source nature.

In general, all of these server-side languages may be thought of as "filters" whereby the server computer accepts input in the form of a file or stream (mixed text, html, and server instruction code) and then a modified set of resulting data is delivered to the client's browser.
